My husband is out of town for work this week so I am home with just Mr. Giggles. We make a good team- I run errands while he sleeps then he hears me at the outside door and is waiting expectantly for me when I get into the apartment. I then immediately go to the computer to stalk people and he goes back to sleep or tries to sit on the computer.
Well today I ventured away by myself for the first time and went to Lotte Mart. It’s a three story department store with a food court, shopping and a cultural center. It’s nice because the food court has a display full of plastic food and each meal has a number next to it to tell the cashier. I did pretty well with ordering (I wrote the number on a piece of paper) and found the counter where my meal was with ease. The worst part was figuring out what to do after I was finished eating. Do I leave it on the table? Is there a trash bin a la fast food restaurants? I don’t know! So I stared intently at the poor guy next to me as he finished his meal (some type of tempura, it looked better than my meal) and I watched as he brought his tray back up to the counter where he had originally picked up the meal. Success!
Now I am sure that sounds like not much of a hassle but let me tell you, it took him more than ten minutes more time after I had finished my meal so I am sure I looked like a weirdo sitting quietly over an empty plate only to get up and follow him when he dropped his plate off.
That’s pretty much my experience in foreign countries, you can get done the things you need to get done only it takes about ten times as long.
